Foundation Year

An event was held at Fitzwilliam College on Tuesday, 16 May 2023 to celebrate the Cambridge Foundation Year and recognise the generous contributions of our benefactors.

The event brought together the first cohort of Foundation Year students and University staff involved in the programme with benefactors. Students had the opportunity to engage with their supporters to learn more about their lives and what encouraged them to support the programme, while supporters could hear first-hand about the student experience as we approach the end of the academic year. Students shared their academic highlights, reflected on their experiences and extra-curricular interests, and their aspirations for the future beyond the Foundation Year.

A highlight of the event was award-winning author Daniel Rosenthal in conversation with Olivier Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated director Josie Rourke. Josie, the first person from her state school in Salford to attend Cambridge, discussed her experiences as a student and how they equipped her for her highly successful career in the theatre. Professor Bhaskar Vira, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education closed the event by reflecting on the place of the Foundation Year in Cambridge's overall strategy to ensure that students with the potential to excel have the opportunity to study at Cambridge.
